The project Crosssing Fences – The Green and Natural Heritage of Gardens and Parks goes Tourism is an E.U. funded INTERREG IIIB PROJECT. The project is headed by the city of Celle in Germany and Western Finland’s Environmental Centre acts as the national co-ordinator in Finland.

The project is being carried out during the period 2002-2004 and its aim is to develop the parks, to build up both a national and an international network of European parks and gardens and to market them together.

Denmark
In Denmark 31 parks and gardens are participating in the project. These parks are presented in a brochure as well as on the joint web pages. Visit www.visiteastdenmark.com – your guide to Själland, Mön and Lolland-Falster and experience the most beautiful part of Denmark.

Liselund Castle Park
The castle park boasts exotic plants and buildings; the Chinese pavilion, a Swiss cabin and a Norwegian house. The new castle was erected in 1887 and is now in use as a hotel and restaurant.

Germany
A network of more than 100 parks and gardens located between the Baltic Sea and the Luneburger Heather are co-operating in the project. Jointly arranged events, such as flower markets, take place in the summer season at different garden venues. Information about the parks and gardens, day-trips and coming events are published in a brochure and on the web page, at www.gaerten-europas.de.
Farmers’ Garden Hössering
The traditional Farmers’ Garden of Hösseringen near Celle: A collection of different vegetable herbs and the flower fields surrounded by historical buildings, give the place a wonderful smell and a beautiful appearance in the summertime. Visitors are welcome to the annual harvest and apple festival.

Sweden
The project is geographically located in north west Skåne, where Norrviken Gardens (www.norrviken.nu) is the main participating partner. The aim is to combine product development with improved marketing strategies. Another important subdivision of the project is the Garden Tour (www.tradgardsrundan.nu) , which is a joint project that involves 10 municipalities and also includes the large-scale gardens Sofiero (www.sofiero.helsingborg.se) and Fredriksdal in Helsingborg (www.museum.helsingborg.se/fred). A number of smaller gardens are also participating in this project, which aims to develop a smaller-scale garden tourism.
Norrviken Gardens include some of Sweden’s most remarkable gardens.
