The old colonel’s residence Tottesund Manor is a place of both cultural and historical interest. In the year 1660, under the oversight of C.Å. Tott, Tottesund’s first residence was erected. The present manor house was erected by major-general Gustaf von Numers in 1800. The adjacent park, which was established simultaneously, has an area of 13 hectares and stretches right down to the sea. It was previously intersected by streets in a symmetric pattern, apparently modelled on Versaille. Finland’s national composer, Jean Sibelius, was married at the manor and the newly-weds started their honeymoon voyage from the park by boat Today the park is made up of a mixture of indigenous and foreign deciduous and coniferous trees. The garden’s flower-beds are filled with flowers of ancient national origin, older species of apple and cherry trees as well as different kinds of blackcurrant and redcurrant bushes. Various cultural events are held in the garden during the summer. The park has been shrouded with a cloak of mystery by ghost-stories spread by the folklore tradition. The manor’s own ghost, The White Lady, is said to have appeared in the park where she roams around in her century-long unrest.
